Mining is a gathering profession.... not much support needed. only real need is a pickaxe
starts out with the abilty to mine low level ore such as copper and progresses to others like silver, true silver, gold...as you mine more and your skill level goes up
further training allows you to smelt ore into bars which can be used by a Blacksmith
Also gathers raw gems during the mining process, can be used by jewelers and possible other professions?
